MISE EN EVIDENCE D’UNE TRIADE GLACIAIRE NEOPROTEROZOÏQUE ET D’UNE MOLASSE DANS LA REGION DU BELI, BASSIN DU GOURMA, NORD-EST BURKINA FASO

Miningou Y. W. M., Affaton P., Bamba O., Lompo M.

Abstract

Neoproterozoic glacial deposits of the northern Taoudeni basin were assimilated to the trilogy “tillites, carbonates, chert” called “triad”. As in sedimentary formations of Taoudeni and Volta bassins, those in the region of Beli, located on the southern border of the Gourma Basin (north-eastern Burkina Faso), include an association of tillite-limestone-chert that was connected to the "triad" of Taoudeni basin. This triad and a Molasse formation have been identified for the first time in this portion of the basin.

The revised geological map, obtained after studing six geological sections and interpreting aerial photographs, shows the spatial distribution of the eight formations that comprise the lithostratigraphic section of the region of Beli. The triad overlay quartzitic sandstones and is overlaid with shales and dolomites. On top rest phyllites in turn covered by the molassic formation. As in the carbonated formations, some rocks of the cherty complex contain stromatolites as well as micro-organisms.
