Abstract :
The Delta of the Saloum is an inverse estuary classified today among the most important of international humid zones. Its mangrove swamp vegetation, characteristic of the inshore zones covers a surface of about 80 000 ha. It is limited at the north by the department of Fatick, to the south by republic of Gambia, to the East by a part of the department of Foundiougne and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The mangrove swamp of the Saloum is in enough advanced deterioration way, phenomenon that constitutes an enormous obstacle for the socioeconomic development of these inshore zones of the islands of the Saloum. Therefore, the necessity to understand the function and working of the mangrove swamp ecosystems in the aim of their sustainable management is urgent. It is in this optics that we started the survey of the influence of some physical factors (the pH and the saltiness of water, as well as the texture of soil) on vegetation constituted in its big part of Rhizophora. This survey whose main objective is to understand the working of the ecosystems and to bring useful elements in the process of revitalization of the damaged ecosystems of mangrove swamp, permitted to get the results that permitted to pull some conclusions. The results shows that the saltiness of water associated to the texture of soil would be a lot determining than the pH (practically neutral in all sites of survey) on the establishment and the evolution of the vegetation of the mangrove swamps of the Saloum. Otherwise, we noted that the strong saltiness and the coarse textures (middle sand) don't encourage a good development of the mangroves in particular the Rhizophora.
